In June 2024, severe monsoon rains caused catastrophic flooding and landslides in Bangladesh. Sylhet received 242 mm of rainfall, flooding almost 75% of the district, with more than half of the crops submerged, threatening food security. As of 19 June, 15 people have died due to landslides. The floods have displaced 260,000 people and affected 3.74 million, with 772,000 children at risk of malnutrition and waterborne diseases. Recently in August a second wave of floods hit Feni, Noakhali districts and there is now a dire need to provide emergency food packs.
