In collaboration with Manchester Muslims Burial Trust, City Jamia Masjid (Longsight) is one of only 3 masjids in Manchester which is performing funeral rites for Covid-19 deceased. Where possible, City Jamia Masjid will perform ghusl for the deceased. It is vitally important that we keep our staff and volunteers safe with appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Please help us raise money to purchase face masks, protective overalls, eye protection, cleaning products and other much needed essentials. Any surplus equipment will be provided for free to other organisations insha'Allah.
This is a difficult and distressing time for all those that are losing their loved ones to Covid-19. Allow us to assist them by providing Islamic funeral rites which form an essential part of honouring the deceased in our faith.
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, ” Whoever relieves a believer’s distress of the distressful aspects of this world, Allah will rescue him from a difficulty of the difficulties of the Hereafter. " [Muslim]
FAQs
1. Can you accept zakat?
- We are a masjid/funeral service and cannot accept zakat. Please consider your donation lillah.
2. Why is the target so high?
- The items required need to be purchased in large (bulk) quantities. We have estimated our requirements based on the projected fatalities from covid-19 in our community, and the requirements of PPE per funeral (from collection of the deceased through to burial).
3. Will the money be used for other purposes?
- No. The money will only be used for PPE and other associated costs including disinfection materials and minor pieces of equipment (if needed for handling the bodies).
4. What will you do if you have surplus PPE?
- Should this fortunate situation arise, we intend to provide any surplus equipment to other organisations free of charge.
5. Which areas do you cover?
- We cover Manchester and surrounding areas including Stockport and Trafford.
5. How can I volunteer?
