Afghanistan has suffered over four decades of war. During the 1980s, over 1.5 million Afghans lost their lives in the Soviet invasion. In the decade after, thousands more perished in the brutal civil strife. And in the last twenty years, a further one million were killed in the War on Terror (which can be more accurately described as the 'terrorising war on muslims around the globe').
A cynical freezing of the country’s financial assets in 2021 has left much of the population penniless and hungry. Over one million children are thought to be facing starvation.
For this reason I am trying to raise much needed funds for UWT to keep helping with the effort to avert this man-made disaster.
The idea behind Everesting couldn’t be simpler: cycle up and down a hill until you’ve tallied 8,848m of ascent – the height of Mount Everest. The reality is a relentless endurance battle that will push you to your physical and mental limits. Further, add to that an attempt with a mountain bike, off road with loose rocks and even steeper gradients. For this reason I'll be aiming for Advanced Base Camp at 6400m.
For this I will be riding my mountain bike on a local off road trail that averages 10% gradient and has a central section of 17% (1 in 5). Simply put, it's probably one of my toughest challenges ever, estimated to take almost 30 hours [ed. full Everest probably beyond my health abilities so I'll aim for Advanced Base Camp at 6400m IA]. But inshaAllah (God Willing) the money raised will be worth it. Like all gruesome challenges, remember it is an attempt, but I will give it my best shot and InshaAllah complete it!
Please help by sponsoring my effort by donating here. May Allah reward you! If anyone would wish to join me and help with the fundraising then do get in touch!
