Thursday 13th October 2022 (Al-Khamis 17 Rabi' I 1444 AH) started like any other day of our lives so far, but little did we know it will end with immense grief and sorrow for our family and friends. When my sister Saniya Riaz who had turned 30 just a day before, left the house with her husband that Thursday afternoon, no one knew we will not be seeing her in this world again. Our beloved Saniya and her husband were on their way home around 8pm when their car was hit from behind as they waited on the traffic lights. The impact of the crash was so high that the car Saniya was travelling in was lifted off the ground and flipped twice before resting upside down crushing our beautiful sister inside. We were oblivious to all the pain our sister’s soul was going through and were calling on her mobile phone to check what time will she be arriving home as her Birthday celebratory meal awaited. Little did we know, our beautiful sister, mother, daughter, niece has been taken to the ICU (intensive care unit – Preston Hospital) where she sadly passed away on Friday 14th October 2022 (Al-Jummah 18 Rabi’ I 1444 AH) leaving her 6 years old son behind who has nothing but inconsolable pain and grief in his eyes. “Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un - Indeed, to Allah we belong and to Allah we shall return.” (Quran 2:156)
My sister had her full life ahead of her. She had so many dreams and goals to achieve. She was a beautiful soul inside and out. She’s always put others first and she’d give so much. She was a big hearted soul who’d go through all the extra miles to make her loved ones happy.
We have been devastated by this loss and our lives have been changed forever. We now know that the heartless, careless and sick minded individual who crashed into Saniya’s car was under the influence of Alcohol and therefore was driving at twice the speeding limit of the road. People like him need to be prosecuted and sentenced for their evil acts as they are responsible for making our roads less safe and taking many innocent lives on hourly basis. We, as Saniya’s family will continue to fight for justice and tougher sentencing for drunk/ under the influence drivers.
As we await the trial of the criminal, we want to remain patient and spread kindness in the form of Sadaqah Jariyah for our sister. “Blessed is He in whose hand is dominion, and He is over all things competent [He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best indeed and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving.” (Quran, 67:1-2). We are reaching out to you to request your support to build water wells, feed the poor, provide relevant learning materials for children in the beautiful memory of Saniya Riaz Ahmed. Please support our cause by making a contribution (as small or big as it might be) towards this appeal.
And spend [in the way of Allah] from what We have provided you before death approaches one of you and he says, “My Lord if only You would delay me for a brief term so I would give charity and be among the righteous.” (Surah Al-Munāfiqūn, 10).
“When a human being dies, all one's deeds cease, save three: a Sadaqah Jariyah, [religious] knowledge [one leaves behind] from which others benefit, and a righteous child who prays for one” (Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) - Sahi Muslim).
We thank you for your time, for you support, for your kindness and for reading this post. Please share this with your family and friends to help spread the call of our petition far and wide. May Allah Subhan Wa Ta'ala bless our Saniya and loved ones who have passed away Janatul-firdos and reward us all in this life and the next. Ameen Ya Rab ul A’alameen.
