UPDATE: £2.2 MILLION IN DONATIONS AND QARDH HASANA HAS BEEN RAISED FOR THE PURCHASE. ONLY ANOTHER £450,000 IS NEEDED TO FUND THE PURCHASE

By the Grace of Allah, the Muslim community of Medway have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to purchase a purpose built school site, which was previously a school campus site for St. John Fisher Catholic Comprehensive, a local secondary school that recently relocated to a new site.

Alhamdulillah, the community has placed an offer for the purchase of the school site for £2.65 million pounds which has been accepted. Total expenditure including conveyancing and refurbishments means that we need to raise £3 million pounds.

We now need to pay the £2.65 million for the purchase of the site. Alhamdulillah so far we have raised £2.2 million in donations and qardh hasana and only have £450,000 to go.

The proposed site and local area

The former secondary school is located within Chatham, Kent - in the heart of the Medway Towns with over 7,600 Muslims in the local area and rapidly growing.

Our existing mosques have run-out of space with 2-5 congregations held in each mosque for Jumu'ah, Tarawih and 'Eid prayers, with a dire lack of women's prayer facilities throughout Kent. Very limited and expensive ghusl and funeral services.

Our evening and weekend madrasas have students on waiting lists due to the lack of space. Our pre-school services are under huge demand and nearing full capacity.

Our youth do not have the space and facilities needed and feel disconnected from an Islamic nurturing environment outside of the house.

The existing site as-is already addresses many of these issues:

• 20+ classrooms and science labs
• sports hall and dining hall
• playground and grass playing field
• main building can accomodate 1000+ worshippers alone
• 300+ car parking spaces
• approx. 3.33 acre site with 33,457 sq ft of existing space

Developing the Muslim generation of tomorrow

The community has identified this opportunity to develop an independent Islamic school in the heart of Medway. Based on fundamental teachings and principles of Islam with qualified local teachers and scholars, this site will provide the desparately needed infrastructure to develop our future generations for years to come.

The campus will initially start with a pre-school, nursery and primary school providing both religious and secular education, catering for ages between 2-11 years. Evening and weekend madrasa for ages 5-17, with the potential of also incorporating our adult classes and 'Aalimiyyah and Islamic Studies programmes.

The campus will have an on-site mosque with modern prayer facilities for both men and women. Allowing over 1,000 worshippers to pray in congregation for Jumu'ah, 'Eid and throughout Ramadan.

Community services and projects can be held at the campus such as: youth clubs, career workshops, women's support, children's sports day, food bank, weddings and funerals just to name a few. The opportunities to grow and develop the ummah are endless.

In a world where religious freedom is being suppressed, family values are diminishing and immorality is on the rise - this project brings a beacon of hope to provide a safe and nurturing environment for our children, engage and support the wider community and lead by example as the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) did. This site will be an invaluable resource for all, serving the people from the cradle to the grave.
