The Syria crisis has reached a new turning point. After 14 years of civil war and following the fall of the Assad regime, the country is now dealing with an even greater humanitarian crisis. 16.7 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance and over 7 million people are internally displaced.

I am working with Action For Humanity (formerly Syria Relief), which is one of the largest NGO's working inside Syria with years of experience providing lifesaving aid.

Over the last year we have been supporting the building of houses to help people move out of campsites. However, the recent turmoil has created new and immediate challenges with urgent need for food, shelter and medical treatment for extremely vulnerable people as well as rehousing people returning home to the south.

I plan to visit Syria during Ramadan and support the work on the ground. Here are just some of the ways we will be helping those most affected by the ravages of war;

Cash – to help people buy food, water and medical supplies

Rehousing - providing a dignified return for displaced families returning home after years of displacement. 

Orphans – to give a chance of survival to those who have lost their families

Eye Care – to help fund critical operations to save or restore eye sight

Hearing – to help fund hearing aids to children with hearing loss

Limbs – to help fund prosthetic limbs for adults and children

Water & Sanitation – to fund projects that provide clean water and sanitation
