Trowbridge Masjid
Our History, Current Services and Appeal
In 1998 Wiltshire Council granted planning permission for the construction of a purpose built Masjid in Trowbridge, Wiltshire.
After many years of hard work fundraising throughout the UK and the world the Masjid was finally completed in 2001.
The Masjid currently serves a diverse community of an estimated 300 Muslim families and the wider community in Trowbridge and the surrounding region. The Muslim community here is growing due to new families accepting Islam, more Muslims moving into the region from places like London and Birmingham and due to the growth of existing Muslim families that live here.
An extension to the main Masjid building began in the late 2000s and is now almost complete. The extension space will be used for events, classes and other programmes throughout the year. Two separate accomodations have also been built above the extension space for an in-house imam as well as additional accommodation which will generate revenue for the Masjid.
The following services are offered at the Masjid:
- 5 daily prayers
- Jumu'ah prayer: Khutbah in both Arabic and English
- Funeral prayers: Mortuary freezer available on-site where bodies of the deceased can be stored safely until the funeral prayer begins
- Madrassa: 60 children attend every Sunday learning the Arabic language, Quran and other subjects.
- Hadith reading/ Tafsir al-Quran: Every day after Zuhr prayers. English and Arabic.
- Library: We have a wide collection of books in Arabic, English, Bangla, Urdu and Turkish serving the diverse community that live in Wiltshire. The library is currently being refurbished and new books are being added to our collection.
- Youth club: Pool table, table tennis, boxing ring and equipment, foosball table, air hockey table and more. Trips every few months and sleepovers at the Masjid. Regular Qur'an classes and other classes covering topics concerning the youth.
- Women's club: Regular meet ups at the Masjid discussing various topics, coffee mornings, book reading club, toddlers and young children welcome. Regular trips. Investments made in children's toys, activities and facilities.
- Men's socials: Regular meet ups at the Masjid with food usually cooked in the Masjid kitchen.
- Ramadan: Daily tarawih prayers, daily iftar gatherings, family iftar gatherings every Saturday.
Eid: Eid prayers at the Masjid followed by an Eid party with food, activities and entertainment for children.
- Open days: We have at least two major public open days a year and also do open days throughout the year for groups who contact us.
Currently the Masjid is financially stable Alhamdulillah and only a small amount of an estimated £15,000 remains to complete the remaining building works. The Jumu'ah collection generates just about enough to cover our monthly bills and expenses.
The Trowbridge Masjid is in a unique position to represent and deliver the message of our Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله عليه و سلم) to those residing in this region of the UK in which no other purpose built Masjid exists. Please consider contributing to this great cause. May Allah accept it from you.
